New chief election of the country

• Gyanesh Kumar has been appointed as the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India.

• He is a 1988 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Kerala cadre.

• His tenure will last till 26 January 2029.

• The term of the current Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar ended on 18 February 2025.

• His education includes B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT Kanpur, Business Finance from ICFAI, and Environmental Economics from Harvard University.
