Centre amended passport rules

• The central government has recently amended the passport rules of 1980.

• For applicants born on or after 1 October 2023, the birth certificate issued by the appropriate authorities will be considered as the only valid proof of date of birth.

• Earlier, different documents like Aadhaar, PAN or school certificate were valid in passport application.

• This change will help in making the application process simple and transparent as well as curbing fake documents.
