- The central government has recently amended the passport rules of 1980.
- For applicants born on or after 1 October 2023, the birth certificate issued by the appropriate authorities will be considered as the only valid proof of date of birth.
- Earlier, different documents like Aadhaar, PAN or school certificate were valid in passport application.
- This change will help in making the application process simple and transparent as well as curbing fake documents.
