- West Japan Railway Company (JR West) has built the world’s first 3D-printed railway station.
- The station is located at Hatshima Station in Arida City, Wakayama Prefecture, and was completed in March 2025.
- Japanese construction company Serendix Inc. used 3D printing technology for this project.
Station Features:
-
Size and Structure:
The station is a single-story building with an area of approximately 10 square meters and a height of 2.6 meters. Parts of the walls and roof were created using 3D printing technology and assembled on-site. -
Construction Process:
The building materials were first prepared using a 3D printer, then transported to the site and assembled using a crane in about six hours. This process is significantly faster and more cost-effective compared to traditional construction methods. -
Durability and Design:
The building is strong and earthquake-resistant, as it is made of reinforced concrete. The exterior features reliefs representing local specialties such as Arida City’s mikan oranges and beltfish, giving the station a distinct cultural identity.
