  • Maharashtra Day and Gujarat Day are celebrated every year on May 1.
  • Both states are celebrating their 65th foundation day in 2025.
  • Maharashtra and Gujarat were formed in 1960 after the Bombay province was divided into two parts.
  • Both states were formed on the basis of language. Marathi-speaking areas were included in Maharashtra, while Gujarati-speaking areas were included in Gujarat.
  • The boundaries of the state were defined under the States Reorganisation Act, 1956.
