New President of Poland

• Karol Nawrocki has won Poland's presidential election.

• He contested as an independent candidate with the support of the opposition Law and Justice party.

• Nawrocki got nearly 51 percent of the vote.

• He defeated Rafal Trzaskowski of the ruling Civic Coalition by a narrow margin.

• Trzaskowski, the mayor of Warsaw, got a little over 49 percent of the vote.

• This was Nawrocki's first attempt at the presidency.
