When is it celebrated?

International Friendship Day is celebrated every year on 30 July in most countries of the world.

However, in India, the US and some other countries it is celebrated on the first Sunday of August. This year in 2025, it will be celebrated on 3 August in India.

Objective:

The main objective of this day is to promote friendship among people, countries, cultures and individuals.

It is a platform to encourage peace, unity, mutual understanding and reconciliation. Friendship helps us to look beyond differences and develop respect for each other.

Significance:

Friends are an essential part of our lives. They provide support, happiness and emotional support.

This day gives us an opportunity to express our gratitude to friends who stand by us in our good and bad times.
It also inspires us to make new friends and strengthen human relationships.

History:
The concept of International Friendship Day was first proposed by Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho in Paraguay in 1958, which led to the formation of the 'World Friendship Crusade'.
The United Nations formally recognized July 30 as International Day of Friendship in 2011 to encourage the role of friendship in promoting peace and bridging the gap between different communities.

This year, the theme of World Friendship Day 2025 is: "From friendship to dialogue".
