- On August 12, Union Health Secretary Smt. Punya Salila Shrivastava virtually launched the SHREST Index in the presence of Dr. Rajiv Singh Raghuvanshi, Drugs Controller General of India.
- This first-of-its-kind national initiative will standardize and strengthen state drug regulatory systems through a transparent, data-driven framework.
- The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) proposed this initiative to ensure consistent delivery of drug safety and quality standards.
- Health Secretaries and Drug Controllers of various States and Union Territories participated in the meeting virtually.
- Smt. Shrivastava urged Centre-State collaboration to regulate India’s globally important pharmaceutical industry.
- States will be ranked in two categories – Manufacturing States and Primary Distribution States – with separate indices.
- SHREST will have 27 indices for manufacturing States on five key themes: human resources, infrastructure, licensing activities, monitoring activities and accountability, and 23 indices for primarily distributing States.
