- Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat has been appointed by President Draupadi Murmu to discharge the functions of the Governor of Maharashtra, in addition to his own duties.
- The appointment comes as the outgoing Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan is stepping down after being elected Vice President of India.
- 67-year-old Mr Radhakrishnan was nominated by the NDA for the post of Vice President.
- He won the election defeating opposition candidate B. Sudarshan Reddy by 152 votes.
- The election was necessitated following the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21.
- Following his victory, Mr Radhakrishnan will formally step down as Governor of Maharashtra on September 11, 2025.
- The President of India issued a notification assigning the additional responsibility to Acharya Devvrat until a regular Governor is appointed.
