Women, Peace and Security Index 2025/26

  • The list of the top 10 best and worst-performing countries in the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Index 2025/26 was recently released in a report.
  • The WPS Index is compiled by the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security and the Peace Research Institute Oslo.
  • The report states that approximately 676 million women experienced conflict last year – a 74% increase since 2010.
  • India ranked 131st with a score of 0.607, indicating gradual but uneven progress.
  • The index evaluates 181 countries based on three dimensions: inclusion, justice, and security.
  • Denmark remained in first place, followed by Iceland and Norway.
  • Afghanistan remains at the bottom of the ranking, with a score less than a third of Denmark's.
  • The United States' ranking improved from 37th to 31st due to better maternal mortality rates.
