- On January 5, India's first indigenously built pollution control vessel, ICGS Samudra Pratap, was commissioned by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Goa.
- The vessel was built by Goa Shipyard Limited as part of India's efforts towards self-reliance in shipbuilding.
- With over 60% indigenous components, Samudra Pratap has been inducted as the largest vessel in the Indian Coast Guard fleet.
- This vessel is the first of two pollution control vessels being built by GSL.
- The vessel significantly enhances India's capabilities in marine pollution response, firefighting, maritime security, and environmental protection.
- It is equipped with advanced pollution detection systems, pollution response boats, firefighting equipment, and aviation facilities.
