The new president of Uganda


  • Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has secured a seventh term in office.
  • He received 71.65 percent of the total votes. The official election results were announced on January 17, 2026.
  • The election took place amidst a nationwide internet shutdown that lasted for several days.
  • Museveni's main opponent was the musician-turned-politician, popularly known as Bobi Wine.
  • Wine received 24.72 percent of the vote. His real name is Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.
  • He rejected the officially declared results and accused authorities of an unfair electoral process.
  • He alleged that his polling agents had been abducted.
  • Wine urged citizens to engage in peaceful protests.
  • The voter turnout was 52 percent. This was the lowest turnout since the return of multi-party politics in 2006.
