- Indian Railways has launched a new DMU train, which is the first train in the country to use an LNG-diesel dual-fuel system.
- This train is operating from Sabarmati railway station in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
- The coaches of this 1,400 HP DMU train have been converted to a dual-fuel system.
- It uses liquefied natural gas (LNG) to offset approximately 40% of the conventional diesel consumption.
- The converted coaches have successfully completed field trials. The trials covered a distance of more than 2,000 kilometers.
- Following the trials, the converted coaches are currently in regular passenger service without any operational issues.
- The dual-fuel system results in a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and also reduces nitrogen oxide emissions.
