- On March 2, President Draupadi Murmu launched the ambitious 'Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana' at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.
- The scheme has been launched as a significant initiative to enhance the economic security of girls from economically disadvantaged families in the national capital.
- Keeping in mind rising educational expenses and changing socio-economic needs, the existing Ladli Yojana has been expanded and restructured into the new 'Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana'.
- Titled 'Empowered Women, Prosperous Delhi,' the program was organized by the Department of Women and Child Development as a significant step towards ensuring higher education and long-term economic stability for girls.
- Under the previous structure, ₹11,000 was deposited in case of institutional delivery and ₹10,000 in case of home delivery, along with ₹5,000 for significant educational achievements up to Class 12.
- Under the revised scheme, a total amount of ₹56,000 will now be deposited in the name of the girl child in instalments, and including the interest earned, the maturity amount is expected to be over ₹1 lakh by the age of 21.
