Jyotiba Phule's 200th Birth Anniversary

  • Social reformer and activist Mahatma Jyotiba Phule was born on April 11, 1827.
  • Together with his wife, Savitri Phule, Mahatma Phule not only fought to eradicate the caste system and untouchability but also championed the cause of women's education and empowerment.
  • In 1848, Jyotiba Phule and his wife, Savitribai Phule, established India's first school for girls at Bhide Wada in Pune.
  • In 1873, he founded the Satyashodhak Samaj to advocate for the rights of oppressed communities.
