Operation Him Setu

  • The Indian Army's Trishakti Corps launched 'Operation Him Setu' to evacuate tourists stranded in Lachen, North Sikkim.
  • Road connectivity between Lachen and Chungthang in North Sikkim has been severed due to landslides, thereby disrupting movement in the region.
  • The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), working in conjunction with troops from the Trishakti Corps, worked continuously—despite adverse weather and challenging geographical conditions—to clear debris and snow from the roads and restore connectivity.
  • The Indian Army's Trishakti Corps (XXXIII Corps) is a premier strike formation under the Eastern Command, responsible for the defense of Sikkim and the strategically vital Siliguri Corridor. It was originally raised in 1942 and was re-raised in Shillong in 1960.
