N. Rangasamy Becomes Puducherry Chief Minister for the Fifth Time

  • N. Rangasamy took the oath as the Chief Minister of Puducherry for the fifth consecutive time on May 13, 2026.
  • Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan administered the oath of office and secrecy to him at the Public Residence. With this occasion, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) formed the government in the Union Territory for the second consecutive term.
  • Puducherry is among the select Union Territories where the system of an elected Legislative Assembly and a Council of Ministers is in place. The governance structure here is based on the parliamentary system.
  • According to the Union Territories Act, 1963, the Chief Minister is appointed by the Lieutenant Governor, while the Council of Ministers—led by the Chief Minister—oversees administration and policy decisions.
  • Due to the presence of an elected Legislative Assembly, Puducherry's political structure is considered distinct and unique compared to other Union Territories.
