Scientists have discovered the oldest Fast Radio Burst to date

  • Scientists have recently discovered an extremely powerful and distant Fast Radio Burst (FRB), designated as “FRB 20240304B.”
  • This mysterious radio signal traveled a distance of approximately 10 billion years to reach Earth.
  • It was first detected on March 4, 2024, by the “MeerKAT” radio telescope located in South Africa.
  • Subsequently, with the aid of the James Webb Space Telescope, scientists identified the galaxy from which this signal originated.
  • The study revealed this galaxy to be a small, irregular, and low-mass dwarf star-forming galaxy.
  • According to scientists, this discovery could play a significant role in gaining a better understanding of the early universe, as well as the origins and evolution of galaxies.
