Successful Trial of Indigenous Weapon System ‘Tara Glide’ Completed

  • The DRDO and the Indian Air Force conducted the first successful flight test of the ‘TARA’ weapon system off the coast of Odisha on May 7, 2026. This indigenous system was launched from a Jaguar fighter aircraft.
  • ‘TARA’ is regarded as India’s first indigenous glide weapon system, developed with the objective of enhancing the strike range and targeting precision of conventional, low-cost munitions.
  • The full name of ‘TARA’ is Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation. It is a modular system capable of transforming standard unguided warheads into precision-guided weapons.
  • This technology enables an increase in the range, target penetration capability, and overall effectiveness of weapons, thereby facilitating more precise and effective strikes against enemy ground targets.
