Anemia-Mukt Bharat Campaign

  • To effectively tackle the challenge of anemia in the country, the Central Government has issued new operational guidelines for the 'Anaemia Mukt Bharat' (Anemia-Free India) campaign.
  • Released by the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare in New Delhi on June 29, 2026, these revised guidelines aim to strengthen anemia prevention, timely detection, effective treatment, and monitoring mechanisms.
  • The new framework adopts a 'Life-Cycle Approach' to more effectively address the nutritional needs of various age groups.
  • The revised campaign replaces the earlier '6x6x6' strategy with a '7x7x7' strategy. This entails seven beneficiary groups, seven key interventions, and seven institutional mechanisms.
  • Under the new system, low-birth-weight infants aged 0 to 6 months have been included as the seventh beneficiary group to ensure anemia prevention and healthy development during the critical early stages of life.
  • Additionally, "Eating Right" has been introduced as the seventh key intervention. This initiative will promote iron-rich foods, a balanced and diverse diet, and improved nutritional practices.
  • The government believes that these new guidelines will make anemia prevention more effective and lead to significant improvements in maternal and child health, as well as overall public health in the country.
