- The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken a significant decision aimed at making the identification of vegan food products clearer and more reliable.
- Under the new regulations, it will be mandatory to display a prescribed standardized vegan logo on the packaging of all approved vegan food products starting July 1, 2027.
- This measure has been implemented under the Food Safety and Standards (Vegan Foods) Amendment Regulations, 2026, which were notified on May 21, 2026.
- This amendment is a step towards making the vegan food regulations introduced in 2022 more effective. Its primary objective is to provide consumers with clear information regarding the nature of the product and to standardize the identification of vegan products in the market.
- The official vegan logo prescribed by FSSAI features a green square frame, a distinctively styled "V," a sprouting leaf symbol, and the word "VEGAN" at the bottom.
- The Authority has also established detailed guidelines regarding the logo's color, size, and design to ensure consistency in its presentation across all products.
- This initiative will make it easier and more convenient for consumers to identify vegan food products.
