- The Punjab Government notified the 'Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural)' [VB-G RAM-G] scheme, 2026, on June 26, 2026.
- This scheme will come into effect on July 1, 2026, across all notified rural areas of the state, replacing the existing rural employment system.
- Under this new scheme, adult members of rural households willing to perform unskilled manual labor will be provided a statutory guarantee of 125 days of employment per financial year.
- The government aims to expand employment opportunities in rural areas, strengthen household income and livelihoods, and accelerate rural development activities.
- It is noteworthy that previously, rural households were guaranteed 100 days of employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA).
- The new VB-G RAM-G scheme increases the employment duration to 125 days, thereby providing rural households with additional employment and economic security.
