- With the aim of giving a new direction to the cooperative-based digital transport system in the country, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched the 'Bharat Taxi' service on June 27, 2026, at the Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
- Billed as the country's first driver-owned cooperative ride-hailing service, it aims to provide drivers with higher income and self-reliance while freeing them from the clutches of middlemen.
- Currently, the service has been launched in 14 major cities of Gujarat, such as Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot.
- The government plans to expand the service across the entire state within the next month.
- The platform has received a positive response since its soft launch in December 2025.
- So far, more than 1.5 lakh drivers and over 7 lakh customers have joined the service.
- At present, 'Bharat Taxi' is completing over 3,500 rides daily, a testament to its growing acceptance and popularity.
