ICAR's 98th Foundation Day

  • On July 16, 2026, while celebrating its 98th Foundation Day in New Delhi, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) presented a long-term roadmap extending to the year 2047, centered on the theme ‘Developed Agriculture and Prosperous Farmers’ (*Viksit Krishi aur Samriddh Kisan*).
  • This roadmap has been formulated with the national goal of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ (Developed India 2047) in mind.
  • Its primary objectives are to strengthen agricultural systems to withstand climate change, expand the widespread use of modern technologies, extend the benefits of agricultural research to farmers, and make Indian agriculture more sustainable, productive, and profitable.
  • The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is the country's premier national institution for agricultural research, education, and innovation.
  • It was established on July 16, 1929, and ranks among the oldest agricultural research organizations in Asia. ICAR operates under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) within the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
  • It conducts and coordinates research across fields such as crop science, animal husbandry, fisheries, natural resource management, agricultural biotechnology, and agricultural innovation, aiming to strengthen the nation's agricultural system on a scientific foundation.
