Good news for women engineering graduates aspiring to serve as officers in the Indian Army. The official notification for the Short Service Commission (SSC) Technical 68th Course for Women, April 2027 batch, is out. Applications open on 8 July 2026, and just like the men’s entry, selection here is purely through the SSB interview — no written exam involved.
Here’s a complete rundown of what you need to know.

Of the 31 total vacancies, 29 are for the general SSC Technical Women entry, spread across engineering streams as below, and 2 are reserved specifically for widows of defence personnel who died in harness.
| Engineering Stream | Vacancies |
|---|---|
| Mechanical (incl. Production, Automobile, Aeronautical, Aerospace, etc.) | 9 |
| Civil (incl. Building Construction Technology, Architecture) | 7 |
| Electronics (incl. Telecom, Communication, Satellite, Fibre Optics, etc.) | 6 |
| Computer Science (incl. IT, Computer Technology) | 4 |

Special Category — For Widows of Defence Personnel Only
| Entry | Vacancy | Eligibility |
|---|---|---|
| SSC(W) Tech | 1 | B.E./B.Tech in any technical stream |
| SSC(W) (Non-Tech, Non-UPSC) | 1 | Graduate in any stream |
As with the men’s entry, the list of equivalent/eligible degrees within each stream is fairly wide. For example, under Mechanical you could qualify with a degree in Mechatronics, Automobile Engineering, or Aeronautical Engineering, while Computer Science covers IT and Information Science & Engineering graduates too. It’s worth checking your exact degree title against the official notification once released.
Selection Process
There’s no written exam for this entry. Selection is based entirely on the SSB (Services Selection Board) Interview, a multi-day process that assesses officer-like qualities through psychological testing, group tasks, and personal interviews. Those who clear the SSB will then go through a medical examination before the final merit list is prepared.
Pay Scale
Pay follows the standard rules applicable to Short Service Commission officers in the Indian Army, along with the usual allowances and benefits that come with the commission.
