International Chess Championship

  • Two Indian Grandmasters delivered outstanding performances at the international chess championship held in Les Menuires, France.
  • Grandmaster S. Rohit Krishna from Tamil Nadu won the gold medal, while Grandmaster Raja Rithvik from Telangana secured the silver medal.
  • Competing in the Open category, both players remained undefeated throughout the tournament, establishing a strong presence for India.
  • The event was part of the '1st Open International d’Échecs des Menuires,' held from July 11 to July 18, 2026, in Les Menuires (French Alps).
  • A total of 86 players participated in the tournament, which was played using the nine-round Swiss-system format. Both Rohit Krishna and Rithvik scored seven out of nine points and did not suffer a single defeat.
  • However, based on tie-break scores, Rohit Krishna claimed the gold with a score of 43, while Rithvik finished in second place with a tie-break score of 41.5.
