- Maharashtra's Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) marked a new chapter in the aviation sector with the commencement of international flights on July 15, 2026.
- To mark the occasion, Air India Express operated the first direct international flight from Navi Mumbai to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
- With this, Navi Mumbai International Airport became formally operational as the second international aviation hub for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
- This achievement will not only strengthen the state's aviation infrastructure but also provide fresh momentum to India's international air connectivity capabilities.
- The operation of the new airport will offer passengers improved connectivity and is expected to alleviate the pressure of existing air traffic in Mumbai.
- Air India Express will operate this service on the Navi Mumbai–Abu Dhabi route three days a week. The airport's first international perishable cargo shipment was also dispatched on this flight, showcasing its state-of-the-art cargo facilities and export capabilities.
- This is expected to boost the export of agricultural, horticultural, and fishery products, as well as other perishable goods.
