Annapurni Super Six Scheme

  • The Tamil Nadu government is preparing to launch the ‘Annapoorni Super Six’ scheme to provide relief to families facing rising domestic LPG cylinder prices.
  • The government plans to implement the scheme around Pongal in January 2027.
  • Under this scheme, eligible families will first have to purchase the domestic gas cylinder. Following the purchase, the government will transfer the fixed subsidy amount directly to the beneficiary's bank account via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
  • This means the consumer must pay the full price at the time of purchase, with the subsidy amount being credited to their account later.
  • The government believes this system will ensure subsidy benefits reach the intended recipients directly and enhance transparency in the distribution process.
  • Amid rising household expenses, this scheme could offer significant relief, particularly to low- and middle-income families.
  • The estimated annual expenditure for the ‘Annapoorni Super Six’ scheme is reported to be around ₹4,000 crore.
  • This also underscores the Tamil Nadu government's commitment to continuing substantial spending on its welfare programs.
