- Cochin Shipyard Limited has handed over ‘Mangrol’ to the Indian Navy. It is the third vessel in the series of indigenously designed and built Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC).
- It was delivered in Kochi on August 21, 2026. It has been specifically designed for operations in coastal and shallow maritime waters.
- ‘Mangrol’ will enhance the Navy's capabilities in low-intensity maritime operations as well as in critical tasks such as surveillance, patrolling, and search and rescue.
- ASW SWC class vessels are designed to operate effectively in shallow waters and coastal areas. Their primary objective is to detect submarines and conduct operations against them.
- Additionally, these vessels can play a role in maritime surveillance and operations such as mine-laying, as required.
- Due to their capability for rapid and efficient operations in shallow waters, such vessels are crucial to the Indian Navy's coastal security framework.
