India's first human spaceflight mission, Gaganyaan

• India’s first human space mission, ‘Gaganyaan’, has achieved a significant milestone in its preparations.

• According to the government, several crucial developments and tests regarding the mission's ‘human rating’ have been successfully completed.

• These include the validation of propulsion systems, structural designs, life-support systems, and safety mechanisms. With these advancements, India has moved closer to its goal of sending humans into space.

• Gaganyaan is the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) ambitious human spaceflight program.

• The HLVM3 rocket—a human-rated version of the LVM3—will be used for this mission. Human rating entails developing and certifying the launch vehicle and spacecraft to a standard where they can safely transport astronauts to space while ensuring their safety.

• This process requires meeting advanced safety standards, incorporating backup systems, and conducting extensive testing.

• Under the mission, the development and testing of the propulsion systems for both the Crew Module and the Service Module have been completed.

• Additionally, the Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS), the Thermal Protection System, and the Crew Module Up-righting System have been successfully developed and validated.

• All these systems will play a vital role in ensuring the safety of the astronauts and the success of the mission.
