Justice M.S. Liberhan passes away

• Justice Manmohan Singh Liberhan, former Chief Justice of the Madras and Andhra Pradesh High Courts, passed away on August 2, 2026, at the age of 87.

• He was counted among the senior and respected judges of the Indian judiciary.

• However, he gained the most recognition as the head of the single-member commission constituted to investigate the 1992 demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.

• Born on November 11, 1938, near Chandigarh, Justice Liberhan began his legal career at the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1964.

• Leveraging his extensive judicial experience and deep understanding of constitutional matters, he rose to the higher judiciary and subsequently served as the Chief Justice of both the Madras and Andhra Pradesh High Courts.
