First Women's Champions Trophy

• The International Cricket Council (ICC) has awarded the hosting rights for the inaugural Women's Champions Trophy, scheduled for 2027, to India.

• This historic tournament will take place from February 14 to February 28, 2027. The competition will be played in the T20 International format, with a total of six teams vying for the title.

• In the league stage of the tournament, all six teams will play against each other. Following the round-robin matches, the top two teams on the points table will face off in the final on February 28.

• Hosting rights for this competition were originally awarded to Sri Lanka. However, the ICC decided to withdraw the rights due to uncertainty surrounding governance disputes within the country's cricket administration and government interference. Subsequently, options including Bangladesh, India, and South Africa were considered, and India was selected based on established criteria for hosting.

• Teams from Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka will participate in the inaugural edition of the Women's Champions Trophy. As the matches will be played in the T20I format, each team will get the opportunity to play 20 overs.

• For India, this event will serve as another major opportunity to showcase the growing popularity of women's cricket and the country's capability to host international cricket tournaments.
