New President of Nepal

• Ram Chandra Poudel has been elected the new President of Nepal.

• Ram Chandra Poudel is a senior leader of the Nepali Congress. Poudel got 33,802 votes.

• Poudel defeated Subhash Chandra Nembang in the election. Subhash Chandra Nembang got 15518 votes.

• Poudel has been elected as the third President of Nepal. He will replace Bidya Devi Bhandari.

• This was the third presidential election in Nepal since it became a republic in 2008.

• A total of 313 members of the federal parliament and 518 provincial assembly members took part in the voting.

• The vote weightage of a federal MP was 79 and that of a provincial assembly member was 48.

• In Nepal, an electoral college elects the President.
