- Vienna has been named the world's "most liveable city" for 2023, according to the Global Liveability Index 2023.
- The Global Liveability Index 2023 has been released by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).
- It ranked 173 cities around the world on various factors including health care, education, sustainability, infrastructure and environment.
- Denmark's Copenhagen is at the second place while Australia's Melbourne and Sydney are at the third and fourth places in this ranking.
- Five Indian cities - Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Chennai, New Delhi and Mumbai - also figure in the list of most liveable cities.
- New Delhi and Mumbai secured the 141st position. Chennai, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru are ranked 144th, 147th and 148th respectively.
- The average index score of 172 cities (excluding Kiev in Ukraine) has now reached 76.2 out of 100. This is the highest in the last 15 years.
- Britain's capital London and Sweden's capital Stockholm have reached 46th and 43rd places.
- Damascus is the least livable city in the world.
