Hiroshima day

• Hiroshima Day is observed every year on 6 August.

• It is celebrated to raise awareness about the devastating effects of the atomic bomb.

• On 6 August 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima.

• The bomb was dropped by the American B-29 fighter plane Enola Gay. It was flown by Paul Tibbets.

• The atomic bomb that was dropped on the city of Hiroshima was named 'Little Boy'.

• The bomb was to be dropped on the AOE Bridge. It missed the target due to headwind. Instead it exploded directly above the Shima Surgical Clinic.

• Three days later, on 9 August 1945, another atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki.
