- National Consumer Day or Indian Consumer Day is celebrated every year on 24 December.
- The purpose of this day is to spread awareness about consumer rights and the power of the consumer.
- The Consumer Protection Bill was passed on 24 December 1986.
- Further amendments were made in 1991, 1993 and 2002 to make the Consumer Protection Act more effective and consumer-friendly.
- In August 2019, Parliament passed the Consumer Protection Act 2019, which replaced the Consumer Protection Act of 1986. The 2019 Act came into force in July 2020.
- World Consumer Rights Day is celebrated every year on 15 March.
