New Chief Minister of Jharkhand

  • On February 2, JMM legislature party leader Champai Soren took oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi.
  • He became CM two days after Hemant Soren resigned from the post of Chief Minister and his arrest by ED.
  • On February 1, Champai Soren urged the Governor to quickly accept his claim to form the government, which was without a chief minister following the resignation of Hemant Soren.
  • Champai Soren, whose party is a constituent of the JMM-led alliance, has been given 10 days to prove his government's majority.
  • The 67-year-old tribal leader has been sworn in as the 12th chief minister of the state and the sixth from Jharkhand's Kolhan region.
