World Telecommunication and Information Society Day

• World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is celebrated on 17 May.

• It is celebrated to raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) can bring to economies and societies.

• Currently India has 99% coverage footprint of 4G and more than 6 lakh villages are covered in 4G and around 4.42 lakh 5G base station transceivers.

• World Telecommunication Day is celebrated every year on 17 May since 1969.
