World Air Quality Report, 2024


  • According to the IQAir report, India is ranked fifth globally in terms of air pollution in 2024.
  • India is ranked second behind Chad, Congo, Bangladesh and Pakistan. India's latest ranking is a slight improvement from the third spot in 2023.
  • India saw a 7% reduction in PM2.5 levels in 2024, with an average concentration of 50.6 µg/m³, down from 54.4 µg/m³ last year.
  • Six of the top ten most polluted cities in the world are located in India.
  • New Delhi's PM2.5 levels remained almost the same in 2024, averaging 91.6 µg/m³ compared to 92.7 µg/m³ in 2023.
  • IQAir reviewed data from 40,000 air quality monitoring stations across 138 countries.
