Global Gender Gap Index 2025

  • India is ranked 131st out of 148 countries in the Global Gender Gap Report 2025 released by the World Economic Forum.
  • It dropped two places from the previous year (ranked 129th) despite marginal improvements in some sub-indices.
  • The overall gender equality score for India is 64.1%, making it one of the lowest ranked countries in South Asia.
  • Economic participation and opportunity saw an improvement of +0.9 percentage points, reaching a score of 40.7%.
  • In estimated earned income, parity increased from 28.6% to 29.9%, positively impacting India’s economic participation index.
  • India’s educational attainment score improved to 97.1% due to an increase in literacy and tertiary enrolment among women.
  • Health and survival metrics also showed progress, especially in sex ratio at birth and healthy life expectancy.
