Small Hydropower Development Scheme

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the 'Small Hydro Development Scheme' for the period spanning 2026-27 to 2030-31.
  • The total outlay for this scheme exceeds ₹2,584 crore.
  • Its objective is to establish small hydro projects with a combined capacity of approximately 1,500 megawatts.
  • This initiative is expected to attract a total investment of approximately ₹15,000 crore.
  • Its primary aim is to promote clean energy in rural and remote areas.
  • The scheme is also expected to generate significant employment opportunities.
  • Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that states would be encouraged to prepare Detailed Project Reports.
  • Approximately 200 projects are expected to be planned under this initiative.
  • The Cabinet has also approved a highway infrastructure project.
  • This includes a four-lane, access-controlled section of National Highway 927.
