The First Female Head of a High-Security Jail in Jammu and Kashmir

• Saba Shawl is the first Kashmiri woman to head the largest high-security prison in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

• She has been appointed as the Superintendent of Srinagar Central Jail.

• This appointment was announced through an order issued by the Home Department of Jammu and Kashmir.

• Four officers have been posted as Superintendents of various prisons; Shawl, specifically, has been entrusted with the charge of Srinagar Central Jail.

• Shawl hails from the Peer Bagh locality of Srinagar. She cleared the Kashmir Public Service Commission examination in 2012.

• Prior to this assignment, she served as an Assistant Officer to the Director General of Prisons.
