- Indian Railways has approved an optical fiber cable backbone project worth approximately ₹398 crore for the Ahmedabad and Ratlam divisions.
- Under this project, plans are in place to cover a 1,929-kilometer stretch of Western Railway's network.
- Of this, 1,456 kilometers of cabling will be laid within the Ahmedabad Division, and 473 kilometers within the Ratlam Division.
- This project has been sanctioned under the initiative titled 'Provision of Kavach Communication Backbone for Long-term Development on the Remaining Routes of Indian Railways.'
- This expansion is expected to significantly bolster the railway's communication infrastructure.
- Its implementation will ensure enhanced capacity, reliability, and efficiency in the railway's communication systems.
