Global Air Powers Ranking 2026

• In the World Directory of Modern Military Aircraft (WDMMA) Global Air Powers Ranking 2026, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has been ranked as the third most powerful military air force in the world.

• India trails only the United States and Russia on this list.

• However, when individual military service branches were evaluated, the Indian Air Force secured the sixth position. 

• This achievement reflects India's growing air power, modern military capabilities, and defense modernization.

• According to WDMMA 2026, the Indian Air Force possesses a total of 1,716 aircraft. These include 542 fighter aircraft, 498 helicopters, 282 transport aircraft, and 374 training aircraft.

• A balanced mix of fighter, transport, rotary-wing, and training platforms is considered crucial for a modern air force, enabling the effective execution of diverse military operations.
