- The Indian Navy is set to receive a significant boost on July 11, 2026. The indigenous stealth frigate INS Mahendragiri will be formally inducted into the Navy at a ceremony to be held at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam.
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be present as the chief guest on this occasion.
- Built by Mumbai-based Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) and designed by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau, INS Mahendragiri stands as a significant symbol of the nation's self-reliant defence manufacturing capabilities and the modernization of the Navy.
- INS Mahendragiri is part of the Nilgiri-class state-of-the-art stealth frigates developed under Project-17A.
- This project is considered an advanced version of the Shivalik-class warships, incorporating cutting-edge features such as low radar cross-section, modern sensors, advanced weapon systems, and superior combat technology.
- According to available official information, INS Mahendragiri is regarded as the sixth warship of Project-17A, although some other sources identify it as the seventh and final frigate of the project.
- Its induction is expected to further strengthen the Indian Navy's maritime security, long-range surveillance, and combat operational capabilities.
