Jharkhand gets its first film and media training institute

  • Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on July 22, 2026, between the Jharkhand Film Development Corporation Limited (JFDCL) and the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata, the state's first 'Jharkhand Film and Television Institute' will be established in Ranchi.
  • The institute will initially operate from the 'Soochna Bhawan' (Information Building) in Ranchi. Its objective is to provide quality professional training to the state's youth in areas such as filmmaking, television, screenwriting, cinematography, editing, sound engineering, acting, and other media disciplines.
  • Under this project, JFDCL will be responsible for the institute's infrastructure, management, and administrative functions, while SRFTI will oversee academic operations.
  • All academic activities—including curriculum design, syllabus preparation, faculty support, technical guidance, training, student assessment, and certification—will be conducted under the supervision of SRFTI.
  • This initiative is expected to develop film and media education in Jharkhand in line with national standards, while also providing local talent with professional training, employment opportunities, and new prospects within the creative industries.
