- In a major move to further strengthen its naval capabilities, Russia launched the new nuclear-powered attack submarine *K-563 Ulyanovsk* at the Sevmash shipyard in Severodvinsk.
- This state-of-the-art submarine belongs to the Project 885M Yasen-M class, which is considered a crucial pillar of the Russian Navy's next-generation multi-role underwater warfare capabilities.
- Developed under Projects 885 and 885M, these fourth-generation nuclear-powered attack submarines are capable of meeting various critical requirements of modern naval warfare.
- They can be deployed to attack enemy submarines and surface warships, as well as to conduct intelligence missions, lay naval mines, and launch long-range missile strikes against land-based targets.
- The keel of the *K-563 Ulyanovsk* was laid on July 28, 2017. Following its launch, the submarine will now enter the fitting-out phase, during which essential equipment and systems will be installed.
- Subsequently, the submarine will undergo sea trials and a final technical evaluation before being formally inducted into the Russian Navy.
